A few weeks before school ended the over ambitious, kinda-always-wanted-to-be-a-teacher, super mom in me decided that it would be "fun" to work through the alphabet with Mary Grace this summer. In my head, the plan was brilliant. We would do 1 letter per week and try to focus on 3-4 activities involving that letter. I wanted to incorporate coloring, cooking, crafts and activities and stretch it out over the whole week. Oh, and I planned to document everything in pictures and have Mary Grace help me create her own letter scrapbook. The plan wasn't necessarily to have Mary Grace learn her letters or the sounds they make. I more just wanted to give her an introduction to them because she has become increasingly curious as we read.
Well, then summer started. Play dates, trips to the pool, trips to Lexington, general summer activities, Vacation Bible School, etc. Lets just say, the plan was much better in my head!
We've modified and scaled back- but the bottom line, we are having fun!

Thankfully we've had some timely coincidences during our letter weeks-
I've been taping her artwork to the fridge again so we can reference it during the week.
The big project this week was BAKING BANANA BREAD

ANTS on a log (for about two weeks after we made these she called raisins "ants." Loved it while it lasted, but now they are back to being raisins.)

I've been taping her artwork to the fridge again so we can reference it during the week.
The big project this week was BAKING BANANA BREADWe needed several ingredients and since this was her thing, I let her drive her own cart in the grocery store. It might have been the highlight of her year, ranking right up there with Disney!
The control freak in me let go and let her do about 90% of the work. We lost about half of the flour, but amazingly it turned out okay.

Again, wonderful coincidence-BRADY'S BIRTHDAY party fell during "B" week!
Brady's mom Amy was an art teacher before she had kids so she is full of awesome project suggestions. She said sticking stickers on the outline of a letter is a great age-appropriate thing to work on. Mary Grace did good at first, but quickly lost focus and started sticking them anywhere except the line. We'll try this with another letter soon!

Mary Grace is obsessed with a book called "Pinkalicious" where a little girl eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink. So these are Mary Grace's Pinkalicious CUPCAKES.
If I ever need 15 minutes of quiet time I will stick something in the oven and turn on the light. She seriously sat here, perfectly still, the whole time!

This is such an awesome idea!! You've totally inspired me to get more motivated this summer. I'm printing out alphabet coloring pages now! It all looks like so much fun. Thank you for the great inspiration! You are such a great mom and Mary Grace is just precious!
