Bed Rest and an Ultrasound...

...For Mary Grace! Mary "always an adventure" Grace has been diagnosed with Toxic Synovitis. It sounds a lot worse than it actually is, but has sure given us a scare this week! Sunday Mary Grace began limping and crying to be held. Because she had been in church nursery earlier that morning, we were unsure if she had taken a fall (but that was our immediate guess). It was very frustrating asking Mary Grace because she pointed out every injury she has EVER gotten saying "it hurts here."
By Monday morning (was that really just yesterday? It has been a LONG 2 days!) Mary Grace was not walking much at all. Typical Mary Grace, she didn't want to be slowed down so she started crawling and dragging her leg behind her. I shot this video of her around 11AM yesterday. (2 side notes- I took the video in case the doctor needed to see a demonstration of her behavior, not just to be mean. And yes, she does have on Christmas pj's...they still fit...and I haven't done laundry!)

Long story short, after 2 trips to the pediatrician and an ultra sound at Children's Hospital, Mary Grace has been diagnosed with Toxic Synovitis. It is basically an inflammation within the hip joint. Signs included pain in the hip joint, inability to bear weight on the leg (limp), low grade fever, and it typically follows an upper respiratory infection (the allergies I though Mary Grace had been experiencing for the last 2 weeks). It most commonly occurs in a 2 year old and it isn't preventable or contagious.

Oh, and my favorite part- treatment includes 7-10 days of bed rest. Ha. Haha! Yeah. Right! So tomorrow will be day 3 of keeping Mary Grace off her feet and 'resting' as much as possible. Wish us luck!

Oh my goodness! I hope you are surviving bedrest. Lots of Disney movies!! Take care and tell Mary Grace we hope she feels better soon. She is such a little trooper to still try and walk on a hurt leg. She is a go-getter!
